A brutal attack on a home in St. Helena Parish, Louisiana, left three people dead, including a 1-year-old baby and a 10-year-old boy, in what authorities are calling a devastating act of violence.
The tragic incident occurred on January 9, 2025, when police responded to a domestic disturbance call at a home in Amite, Louisiana, around 4:39 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found the victims—Rhonda Powell, 40, her son Braylon, 10, and her nephew Hayden, 1—stabbed to death.
The suspect, 31-year-old Ryant Jones, was arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree murder. Jones is reportedly a family member and has a documented history of schizophrenia.
According to a GoFundMe page set up by Powell’s cousin, Deondra Warner, Jones was “experiencing a mental health episode” during the attack.
Warner revealed that just a day before the killings, Jones had been brought to a medical center for treatment and was prescribed new medication, but the support he needed came too late.

Warner described how the family had taken Jones in after doctors refused to commit him, despite signs of aggression.
She told WAFB that she had pleaded with doctors to administer an injection that could help stabilize him, but instead, he was given a pill, which ultimately led to the tragic outcome.
“This was a horrible tragedy,” said the St. Helena Sheriff’s Office in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims’ family.”
Warner also expressed her heartbreak, stating, “No one in that home survived because the mental health system failed him.”
The devastating loss of Rhonda, Braylon, and Hayden has left the family and the community in shock, with many reflecting on the need for better mental health support and intervention to prevent similar tragedies.
