Well, today Saturday (May 6th, 2023) is the day for the biggest event in the Ghanaian music calendar for the current year as a day put in place to award and acknowledge the best musical artiste in the Country (Ghana) the continent (Africa), and beyond. 24thVGMA.

What Is VGMA (Vodafone Ghana Music Awards)?

The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) is an annual music awards event held in Ghana to celebrate and recognize outstanding achievements in the Ghanaian music industry. It is organized by Charterhouse Productions Limited in partnership with Vodafone Ghana. The VGMA has become one of the most prestigious and anticipated music events in Ghana, attracting top musicians, industry professionals, and music enthusiasts from across the country.

The VGMA aims to honor and reward musicians, producers, songwriters, and other stakeholders who have made significant contributions to the Ghanaian music industry. The awards cover various genres such as highlife, hiplife, gospel, reggae/dancehall, hip hop, Afrobeat, and more. It serves as a platform to showcase and celebrate the rich musical diversity and talent in Ghana.

The VGMA features a range of award categories, including Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Best New Artist, Best Collaboration, and many others. Nominees are selected based on their musical achievements, popularity, impact, and overall contribution to the industry.

The official date for the 24th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards popularly known as VGMA was earlier scheduled to come on May 13th, 2023, but changes were made and now had to fall on May 6th.

Held at the Grand Arena (Accra International Conference Center), the music festival witnessed powerful performances from the likes of Sarkodie, King Pormise, Kwabena Kwabena, Piesie Esther, Black sherif, Gyakie, Camidoh, Epixode, Medikal, Ofori Amponsah, and a host of other musical gems, with the show hosted by Bella Mundi, James Gardner, Naa Ashorkor, While the red carpet was hosted by Chrystal, and Fiifo Comleman.

Black Sherfi won the prestigious ‘Artiste Of The Year’: Nominated in the same category with the likes of big music names in the Ghanaian music industry including the likes of Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, King Promise, Camidoh, Kidi, Piesie Esther, and Joe Mettle, Sherif was crowned the winner, and it was a joyful moment, for the 21-year-old rapper.
