Authorities are investigating the death of 25-year-old Navy sailor Devin Jeter, whose body was discovered in Georgia’s Ocmulgee River earlier this week.
The body was found by a local fisherman near Lumber City on Monday, November 11, at around 12:55 p.m., according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).
Jeter had been reported missing three days earlier, on November 8, after failing to show up for work at his Navy base.
His family alerted the Atlanta Police Department when they couldn’t reach him.

Jeter, who was stationed in Jacksonville, Florida, was last seen on November 7 at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport, where he had rented a 2024 silver Jeep Compass.
The vehicle, however, has not been located.
The Telfair County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the GBI, worked to positively identify Jeter’s body.
While an autopsy was performed at the GBI Coastal Crime Lab, no visible injuries were found. Authorities are awaiting additional test results to determine his cause of death.
A special agent from the GBI told PEOPLE that Jeter’s rented vehicle has not been recovered, and they are urging the public for help in locating it.
“Any information, no matter how small, could be vital in solving this case,” the GBI stated.

Jeter’s sudden disappearance and the discovery of his body have raised questions, and authorities are asking anyone who may have seen or spoken to him or who has any information regarding the location of the vehicle to come forward.
As of now, the investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been released.
