Accra Girls SHS: 55 students, staff test positive for COVID-19 in new reports sighted by Townflex
A joint statement released by the Ghana Education Service and the Ghana Health Service confirms that Fifty-five (55) students and staff at the Accra Girls Senior High School have tested positive for COVID-19.
The public is still calling on the authorities to still put schools on close, Just last week, in reports gathered said parents poured in the schools to take home their children for the fear of contracting the Coronavirus infections.
It is just two weeks ater the Government reoponed schools for the final students of both SHS and JHS to prepare for their final examnation. Accra Girls’ Senior High School is among the list of schools that have recorded positive cases of the virus.
They Accra Girls Senior High School recorded their first six cases just last week, one week after schools were reopened.
The COVID-19 technical team for the The National Democratic Congress [NDC] on Monday, made a call on the Government to immediately shud down reopened schools in other to prevent more students from getting the disease.
“The lives of Ghanaian students, teachers and non-teaching staff should be valued equally, and Government must take immediate steps to reverse its decision and to begin the process of returning students to their homes.
“This will necessarily include mass testing of students to ascertain their COVID-19 status before they are released to their parents, to minimize the risk of exporting cases from campuses to communities.” – NDC’s COVID-19 technical team stated.
