Former US President Donald Trump has stated that if elected, he will offer Tesla and Space X CEO Elon Musk a cabinet position or an advising role in his administration.

Trump stated this in an interview with Reuters on Monday, August 19th, 2024, and stated that he is willing to give Musk a chance if he agrees to it.

Donald Trump, the Republican presidential contender, stated during the interview that if won, he would consider terminating a $7,500 tax credit for electric car sales or asking Congress to eliminate it outright.

“Tax credits and tax incentives are not generally a very good thing,” Trump told Reuters following a campaign event in York, Pennsylvania, when questioned about the EV credit.

“I’m not making any final decisions on it, I’m a big fan of electric cars, but I’m a fan of gasoline-propelled cars, and also hybrids and whatever else happens to come along.” Trump said of the EV tax credit.

He also stated that he will revoke Biden administration restrictions requiring manufacturers to create more EVs and plug-in hybrids in order to fulfill higher pollution requirements.

The remarks came just after Musk interviewed Trump on his platform X, formerly known as Twitter, and Trump lauded Musk’s automobiles, noting that although not everyone should have an electric car, Musk makes a “great product.”

Musk did, however, back Trump in July, just after the former president almost avoided assassination at a campaign event in western Pennsylvania.
