Here's Why Korede Bello Left Mavin Records
Quick summary
  • Korede Bello left Don Jazzy's Mavin Records in 2021
  • He first Joined the label since 2014
  • His decision to leave was motivated by a desire for self-discovery, personal growth
  • He felt he was treated more like a product than an artist

Korede Bello, a Nigerian singer and songwriter, has explained why he left Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records, a label with which he has worked for many years.

The ‘Godwin’ hitmaker opened up about his decision during an interview with Hip TV, which was hosted by reality TV actress Kim Oprah.

Korede Bello, who parted ways with the record label in 2021 after seven years, explained that his departure was motivated by a desire for self-discovery and personal development.

The singer claimed that he began to feel like a commodity rather than an artist, trapped in a never-ending cycle of chasing the next big success. According to Bello, his continuous pursuit began to erode his sense of purpose and identity.

“I was at a point in my life where I needed to metamorphose, to explore my inner worth,” Bello stated during the interview. “I wanted to do some introspection, to understand myself better, to find meaning, and to reconnect with my ‘why’.”

The artist, who signed with Mavin Records in 2014, revealed that the realization came to him gradually. The overwhelming pressure to continue creating chart-topping hits began to have a negative impact on his mental health and creativity. “I started to feel like a product.”

Bello continued. “I felt like something being sold, just existing at Mavin Records to make money. You lose sight of what matters when you chase after the next song, the next hit, or whatever it is that can get you into the conversation.”

Bello emphasized that many artists fall into this cycle, becoming addicted to the race for fame and relevance, often at the expense of their personal development and well-being. He stated that his exit from Mavin Records was necessary to break free from this pattern and embark on a journey of self-awareness.
