Ashanti and Nelly are proving that love only gets sweeter with time. At Nelly’s lavish 50th birthday party in Las Vegas, Ashanti couldn’t help but gush about her long-time partner, calling him her “soulmate.”
The couple, who rekindled their romance last year after nearly a decade apart, were all smiles at the celebration, which was attended by close family, friends, and even a surprise appearance from comedian Kevin Hart.
Speaking to ET during the event, Ashanti shared her deep affection for Nelly, calling him “my person, my best friend, my protector.”
She added, “The universe doesn’t make mistakes,” expressing how grateful she feels to have him by her side.
Ashanti, 44, explained that being with Nelly has taught her important life lessons about gratitude, grace, and remaining level-headed.
Nelly, for his part, showered Ashanti with praise, calling her a great person and mother. He described her as the one who makes everything come together, even organizing big celebrations like the birthday party.
“To have that person with you, it’s like, ‘Yeah, that’s it,’” he said.

The couple, who got back together in September 2023, kept their reunion private and married quietly a few months later. In July, they welcomed their first child together, a son named Kareem.
During the interview, Nelly also shared a humorous moment from their new parenting journey, joking about the challenges of changing diapers.
“He’s a boy, and you know, I’ve had boys, but you have to duck and I’ve been peed on so much,” he laughed.
“I can’t wait to show him some of the pictures and videos.
Like, ‘Look at what your mom was doing to you.’ She treats him like a Build-A-Bear.”
Their heartfelt bond and joyful laughter at the party showed just how much they truly cherish one another.
