A Seattle mother has been arrested and charged with the murder of her 14-year-old son after authorities allege she brutally beat him with an extension cord.
Denaya Young, 33, is accused of causing her son’s death by striking him repeatedly because she believed he had failed to complete his chores.
According to police reports and a medical affidavit, the teen, who has not been named, endured 1,172 injuries from the assault before dying on January 30, 2025.
The boy’s injuries led to Sudden Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS), a deadly condition where the body’s immune response to trauma overwhelms the heart and organs, ultimately causing them to fail.
Reports indicate that Young admitted to police that she “lost count” of how many times she struck her son during the violent outburst.

The incident, which occurred in the family’s Seattle home, unfolded in front of the boy’s three younger siblings, who were present at the time.
The tragedy has left the community stunned, with many struggling to understand how such a devastating act could happen. Young is now facing second-degree murder charges for the death of her son.
At this time, it is unclear if she has hired an attorney or entered a plea.
The police investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to piece together more details about the circumstances leading to the boy’s death.
