Touching on global issues, he remarked: “The world is threatened by persistent conflicts, weakening democracies, and deep inequalities. But peace is the foundation for development, justice, and human dignity.”
Jonathan urged leaders worldwide to prioritize dialogue and inclusivity over division, asserting that peace is not just an ideal but a necessity. “Peace is not a lofty ideal — it is a necessity, and one that demands bold leadership and commitment,” he stated.
The former president also revealed plans to channel the prize’s financial component into the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation, an organization committed to promoting peace and good governance across Africa. “This prize encourages not just me, but all peacebuilders across Africa,” he added.
Jonathan’s leadership extends beyond his presidency, with impactful initiatives through the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation, the West African Elders Forum, and the International Summit Council for Peace.
