Wisconsin Man Faces Felony Charges After Fatal Stabbing of Addiction Sponsor and Dog

A 34-year-old guy from Wisconsin has been charged with multiple charges for allegedly killing his addiction sponsor and the sponsor’s dog. Authorities say James C. Dorr Jr. is accused of stabbing the 60-year-old man nearly 30 times after claiming to be fasting for spiritual reasons.

Court documents show Dorr is charged with first-degree intentional homicide, possession of methamphetamine, resisting or obstructing police, and mistreatment of animals resulting in death

The incident occurred on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, around 8:50 p.m. in an apartment on the 1500 block of Capitol Drive in Green Bay. Police responded to a call and found the victim, identified only as “D.V.,” dead inside the residence with numerous stab wounds to the head, chest, and neck.

An autopsy later revealed that the victim had sustained 27 sharp-force injuries, including 15 to the chest and one to the face. The brutality of the attack shocked investigators, especially as there were no signs of a struggle or prior conflict between the two men.

In a disturbing discovery, detectives also discovered the victim’s white poodle, named “Benji,” stabbed to death and stashed beneath the bed. A wallet believed to be Dorr’s was retrieved from the scene, tying him to the crime.

The victim’s ex-wife, concerned after being unable to contact him, visited the apartment and found the horrific scene. She told police Dorr was present at the time but ran off when she arrived.

Dorr was apprehended the next day walking along a street and was reportedly in possession of methamphetamine when arrested.

During questioning, Dorr reportedly confessed to both killings. He told investigators he had been experiencing disturbing visions of his daughter and her mother being harmed and claimed it felt like “the end of the world.” He said he had been fasting for two days with no food or water for spiritual purposes, and that he wasn’t in a dispute with the victim.

“I asked if he stabbed him. He said, ‘yeah I did, and his dog too,’” the police report states. Dorr said he did not know what day or month it was and admitted that killing the dog was “stupid.”

On Monday, Dorr pleaded not guilty to all charges in court. He is currently being held at Dodge Correctional Institution as the legal process continues.
