A Tennessee man, Daniel Arwood, has been sentenced to life in prison after a Knox County jury found him guilty of first-degree murder and evading arrest. The charges stem from a 2024 incident in which Arwood fatally shot his former employer following his dismissal from a school bus business.
According to a press release issued by the Knox County District Attorney General’s Office on May 16, Arwood, 39, must serve 51 years behind bars before becoming eligible for parole. A sentencing date of July 2 has also been set for the evading arrest charge.
On February 5, 2024, Knoxville Police responded to a distress call reporting gunshots at a local school bus transportation warehouse. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim, the owner of the facility had been fatally shot. Authorities confirmed that Arwood had previously worked for the victim and was also a close friend.
Prosecutors revealed that Arwood had been staying in a room inside the warehouse, courtesy of the victim’s generosity. However, after being terminated from the job, Arwood was instructed to vacate the premises.
Tragically, what began as a conversation between the two men in the facility’s parking lot ended in violence. Witnesses reported that Arwood pulled out a gun during the exchange and shot the victim twice. The victim attempted to flee, but Arwood pursued him and continued firing until he collapsed and died on the scene.
Following the shooting, Arwood fled the area in his car. Police later tracked him down, but he refused to surrender, leading them on a high-speed chase that exceeded 100 miles per hour. He was eventually apprehended and taken into custody.
