The head coach of the Black Stars of Ghana, Otto Addo, has unveiled his 23-man squad for the upcoming 2025 Unity Cup tournament in London, notably excluding deputy captain Thomas Partey and star midfielder Mohammed Kudus.
Among the most eye-catching additions are four home-based talents who have been rewarded for their performances in the Ghana Premier League. They include Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, Nations FC midfielder Razak Simpson, Medeama SC defender Kamaradini Mamudu, and Asante Kotoko striker Kwame Opoku.
Otto Addo has also extended first-time call-ups to several players, reflecting the need to build depth and test new options as some of the regulars are out due to injuries or club duties. This decision brings a fresh dynamic to the national team setup.
Making a return to the Black Stars squad are Abdul Samed Salis of Sunderland, Anderlecht’s Majeed Ashimeru, and forward Felix Afena-Gyan. Their inclusion signals a balance between returning experience and new opportunities.
All players invited are expected to report to camp today, Monday, May 26, 2025, as preparations begin in earnest ahead of their crucial opening match.
Ghana will face fierce rivals Nigeria on Wednesday, May 28, at the GTech Community Stadium in West London. This game serves as a semi-final fixture, with the winner advancing to the Unity Cup final scheduled for Saturday, May 31, 2025.
Also competing in the Unity Cup are the Reggae Boys of Jamaica and the Soca Warriors of Trinidad and Tobago, making this a highly anticipated tournament involving some of the top teams in African and Caribbean football.
