Mikel Arteta confirms four players are leaving Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has wasted no time in initiating the club’s summer rebuild after confirming the exit of four players from his squad. The Spaniard made it clear that the work ahead is already underway, as the Gunners aim to bridge the gap in their quest for Premier League glory.

The North London side ended their season on a high with a narrow 2-1 win over Southampton. The victory secured their third consecutive second-place finish in the Premier League standings. However, it also highlighted the need for reinforcement if Arsenal are to finally end their title drought.

Arteta confirmed the departure of Kieran Tierney, Jorginho, and loan players Raheem Sterling and goalkeeper Neto. All four are now set to exit the club, paving the way for fresh faces in the upcoming transfer window.

Tierney made a memorable exit by scoring in what is likely his final game for the Gunners. The Scottish international, who has spent six years at the club, is expected to return to former side Celtic.

Speaking after the match, Arteta expressed his appreciation for the departing players, stating, “It was important as well to say goodbye to a few players who have left our football club, to say thank you for their contribution.”

He added, “Some of them, like Kieran, have been on this journey with us for six years. Jorginho, Neto, and Raheem — we owe them our thanks and wish them the best going forward.”

The Gunners’ season was heavily impacted by key injuries to Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, and Kai Havertz. Their absence was felt in front of goal, as the team failed to produce a single player with double-digit goals, a first in over a century.

Despite those setbacks, Arteta managed to keep his side competitive until the final day. “It’s time to reflect, time to reset, and get our energy back,” he said. “This season has stretched us all, but the mindset and culture at the club have helped us compete at the highest level.”

With four players already out the door, Arsenal’s summer activity is set to define their 2025 campaign. Arteta and the club hierarchy are expected to be active in the market, addressing glaring weaknesses in the attack and midfield.

The Arsenal boss emphasized that planning for the next season has already begun. The goal is clear, to return stronger, deeper, and with a squad capable of finally ending their Premier League title drought.
