Naz Reid Inks 5-Year, $125M Contract to Remain with Timberwolves

Naz Reid is staying in Minnesota, securing his future with a lucrative five-year, $125 million contract extension with the Timberwolves, according to NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN. The deal includes a player option, giving Reid flexibility in the later stages of the agreement.

The 6-foot-9 forward-center had the option to remain on a $15 million player contract but chose instead to commit long-term, a move that signals both his personal confidence and the Timberwolves’ belief in his rising stardom.

After winning the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year in 2023-24, Reid elevated his game even further last season. He posted career highs in scoring, rebounding, and assists, averaging 14.2 points, 6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in just under 28 minutes per game.

Reid’s role as a high-efficiency stretch big has made him an irreplaceable piece in Minnesota’s frontcourt. Whether sharing the court with stars like Karl-Anthony Towns or Rudy Gobert, or leading the second unit, Reid brings energy and consistency.

His skillset allows head coach Chris Finch to deploy multiple lineup styles. From twin-towers with Gobert to small-ball with more shooters, Reid ensures flexibility without compromising defense or floor spacing.

Last season, only seven NBA players made 150 three-pointers, handed out 150 assists, blocked 50 shots, and recorded 50 steals. Reid joined that elite club, rubbing shoulders with MVPs like Kevin Durant and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, a testament to his all-around impact.

Despite not being known as an elite rim protector, Reid’s strength and lateral agility make him a top-tier switch defender. The Timberwolves consistently allow fewer points per possession when Reid is on the court.

Coach Finch praised his defensive work, saying, “He’s taken on different matchups and created a lot of transition opportunities. Whether it’s his passing, dribbling, or finishing, he energizes our offense.”

ust a few years ago, Reid entered the league undrafted out of LSU. Now at 25, he’s one of the NBA’s most reliable and dynamic frontcourt players, admired for his growth and professionalism.

Tim Connelly, Timberwolves president of basketball operations, credited Reid’s progress to his dedication. “He’s obsessed with the game, obsessed with taking care of his body,” Connelly said. “Naz is a culture-setter.”
