A Colorado man is behind bars after a dramatic domestic disturbance that saw him allegedly try to run down his ex-girlfriend’s mother before crashing his SUV into two separate homes, according to the Westminster Police Department.
Police say the suspect, whose name has not yet been released, was arrested on Sunday morning after what officials described as a “domestic disturbance incident” in the Hyland Greens neighborhood, located about 15 miles north of Denver.
Officers responded around 10:45 a.m. following “reports of two separate incidents involving a vehicle and private residences,” police confirmed in a statement.
Investigators believe the man was looking for his ex-girlfriend’s family when the violence unfolded.
“Preliminary information indicates that the suspect first rammed his vehicle into the home of his ex-girlfriend’s mother before taking off from the scene,” the statement explained. “He then reportedly crashed into an unrelated residence. Afterwards, he returned and allegedly attempted to run over his ex-girlfriend’s mother multiple times before ramming his vehicle into her home again.”
The suspect’s actions might have caused further devastation if not for quick-thinking neighbors. Witnesses reportedly intervened and managed to restrain the man until officers arrived. He was then taken into custody without further incident.
While officials confirmed that “no serious injuries have been reported,” both homes sustained significant impact. Structural engineers are currently assessing the extent of the damage to determine whether the properties remain safe for habitation.
The case remains under active investigation as authorities work to determine the suspect’s motives.
