A Michigan mother is facing multiple attempted murder charges after allegedly plowing her Jeep into 11 people across four Detroit-area suburbs while her two young children were inside the vehicle.

Authorities say 30-year-old Rachele Ricklefs launched a violent hit-and-run spree on Sept. 26, leaving a trail of injured pedestrians, damaged police vehicles, and terrified witnesses before being cornered in a Walmart parking lot in Warren.

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido described the allegations as “shocking and deeply disturbing,” pledging to prosecute “to the fullest extent of the law.” Ricklefs now faces 10 counts of assault with intent to murder, along with charges of child abuse, fleeing police, property destruction, and assaulting an officer.

The ordeal began in Royal Oak, where Ricklefs allegedly struck a man riding a bicycle. From there, she drove into Clawson, where her Jeep collided with two police vehicles during an attempted interception. At that point, police said her 12-year-old son managed to escape from the SUV, but her 6-year-old remained inside.

The chase continued into Hazel Park, where another pedestrian was hit. Finally, in Warren, Ricklefs allegedly struck several more victims at multiple locations before ending the spree by running into two shoppers loading groceries outside Walmart.

“It’s a miracle we are not talking about multiple fatalities here,” said Lt. John Gajewski of the Warren Police Department, who called the incident “very, very bizarre.”

Ricklefs allegedly resisted arrest when police converged on her vehicle but was ultimately taken into custody. Authorities suggest mental health may have been a factor but have released no further details.

She was arraigned Monday in Warren’s 37th District Court before Judge Edward Servitto and is currently being held at the Macomb County Jail on a $750,000 bond. A probable cause hearing is set for Oct. 7, followed by a preliminary exam on Oct. 14.

The prosecutor’s office noted that investigators are still identifying victims. “She intentionally drove her vehicle into 10 individuals and one police officer,” a press release stated. “There are additional victims who are not identified at this time.”
