Authorities in Louisiana say a routine traffic stop turned into a shocking homicide arrest after a 20-year-old man admitted to deputies that a body was in the trunk of his car.

Tyler Bourgeois, of St. John the Baptist Parish, was taken into custody Saturday night and charged with second-degree murder following the discovery of 21-year-old Tylen Anderson’s body, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies had been dispatched to a reported shooting on the 300 block of Railroad Avenue in Reserve. Witnesses told investigators they saw an orange Dodge Charger speed away moments after gunfire rang out. Within 10 minutes, a patrol officer spotted the vehicle parked outside a store along West Airline Highway.

When Bourgeois was stopped, deputies said he calmly exited the car before delivering a chilling statement: “There’s a body in the trunk.” Inside, officers found Anderson, dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

Sheriff Mike Tregre later described the killing as an “execution,” telling WWL that Anderson had been shot in the temple.

Investigators say Bourgeois confessed to the killing during questioning, telling authorities that he and Anderson had been riding together before stopping near Railroad Avenue. A heated argument broke out, and Bourgeois admitted he pulled out a gun and shot Anderson.

The motive behind the dispute remains unclear. Bourgeois is being held at the St. John Parish Jail on a $250,000 bond, according to jail records.

The discovery has left residents shaken in the small parish community, where gun violence has been a growing concern. Authorities have not indicated whether further charges will be filed.
