President Donald Trump sharply criticized Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Halftime Show on Sunday night, calling the performance “a ‘slap in the face’ to our Country” in a series of posts on Truth Social during the game.

“The Super Bowl Halftime Show is absolutely terrible, one of the worst, EVER!” Trump wrote. “It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence. Nobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching from throughout the U.S.A., and all over the World. This ‘Show’ is just a ‘slap in the face’ to our Country, which is setting new standards and records every single day — including the Best Stock Market and 401(k)s in History!”

Trump continued his criticism in a follow-up post, writing, “There is nothing inspirational about this mess of a Halftime Show and watch, it will get great reviews from the Fake News Media, because they haven’t got a clue of what is going on in the REAL WORLD — And, by the way, the NFL should immediately replace its ridiculous new Kickoff Rule. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! President DONALD J. TRUMP”

Earlier in the evening, before kickoff, Trump struck a more upbeat tone, posting: “Enjoy the Super Bowl, America! Our Country is stronger, bigger, and better than ever before and, THE BEST IS YET TO COME!”

The halftime controversy follows months of political reaction to the NFL and Apple Music’s September announcement that the Grammy-winning Puerto Rican artist would headline the 2026 Super Bowl Halftime Show. The selection immediately drew criticism from some figures aligned with the MAGA movement.

Corey Lewandowski, Trump’s former campaign manager, condemned the decision at the time and suggested heightened immigration enforcement presence at the event. “It’s so shameful they’ve decided to pick somebody who seems to hate America so much to represent them at the Halftime Show,” Lewandowski said. “We should be trying to be inclusive, not exclusive. There are plenty of great bands and entertainment people who could be playing at that show that would be bringing people together and not separating them.”

Bad Bunny’s performance carries additional significance because it marks his only U.S. concert appearance scheduled for this year. His Debí Tirar Más Fotos World Tour does not include U.S. tour dates. In an interview with I-D magazine, the artist said his concerns about ICE raids influenced his decision to skip touring in the United States.

Trump also addressed the issue in a separate interview on NewsMax’s “Greg Kelly Reports,” describing the booking as “absolutely ridiculous,” while acknowledging he was unfamiliar with the artist. “I’ve never heard of him,” Trump said. “I don’t know who he is… I don’t know why they’re doing it. It’s crazy. And then they blame it on some promoter they hired to pick up entertainment — I think it’s absolutely ridiculous.”
