A disturbing incident inside a Walmart store in Tullytown has led to the arrest of a Pennsylvania mother after her young son suffered a serious head injury, authorities confirmed.
Police say the situation unfolded Saturday when a 911 caller alerted officers to alarming behavior by a woman inside the store. According to the caller, the mother appeared disoriented and was yelling profanities at her children while moving through the aisles. The witness also reported seeing her drop one of the children into a shopping cart, leaving the child unresponsive.
When officers from the Tullytown Borough Police Department arrived, they found the suspect, identified as Samantha Fletcher, holding an unconscious boy. A young girl was also present, asleep in the cart.
Emergency medical personnel were immediately called to the scene. The boy could not be awakened and had visible injuries, including a large bruise on his forehead. He was transported to St. Mary Medical Center, where doctors later confirmed he had sustained a serious concussion.
Witness accounts provided further details about the incident. According to reports cited by Phillyburbs.com, shoppers said Fletcher “slammed” the boy into a shopping cart multiple times, with his head striking the cart during at least one of those impacts, ultimately causing him to lose consciousness.
Following the incident, child protective services intervened and placed both children in the care of their father to ensure their safety.
Authorities have charged Fletcher with multiple offenses, including aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children, recklessly endangering another person, and simple assault. She was later granted bail set at $100,000.
The case remains under investigation as officials review witness statements and medical findings.
