A major shake-up has hit the U.S. Justice Department after President Donald Trump moved to remove Attorney General Pam Bondi following mounting tensions tied to the Epstein files controversy.
The decision comes after weeks of internal friction, public scrutiny, and political fallout that reportedly strained the working relationship between the president and his top legal officer. While the administration has not issued a formal statement confirming the dismissal, multiple reports indicate Bondi will be reassigned within the administration, with Todd Blanche expected to step in on an interim basis.
Per to reports, the development was first revealed by Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy, who stated: “I just got off the phone with President Trump. We have a big scoop. Pam Bondi will soon leave her job as the attorney general, she is going to get a different job within the administration. And in an interim role, she will be replaced by Todd Blanche.”
Sources familiar with internal discussions say the president had grown increasingly dissatisfied with Bondi’s leadership, particularly regarding the handling of the Epstein-related files, which have become a political liability even among his core supporters.
According to those close to the administration, Trump privately complained that Bondi had not “executed his vision” at the Justice Department. Concerns reportedly extended beyond the Epstein matter, with criticism directed at what the president viewed as a lack of urgency in pursuing legal action against key political adversaries.
The tension reportedly escalated into a heated verbal exchange between Trump and Bondi last week, though details of the confrontation remain unclear.
The president’s frustration has also been fueled by the absence of legal action against prominent figures he has frequently criticized, including former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James.
In a previously disclosed message mistakenly shared publicly on Truth Social, Trump expressed his dissatisfaction directly, writing: “What about Comey, Adam ‘Shifty’ Schiff, Leticia???”
“They’re all guilty as hell, but nothing is going to be done,” he added, “We can’t delay any longer, it’s killing our reputation and credibility. They impeached me twice, and indicted me (5 times!), OVER NOTHING. JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED, NOW!!!”
Despite the growing strain, Bondi continued to appear alongside the president at key events, including a recent visit to the Supreme Court and a high-profile national address related to the Iran conflict. As recently as this week, Trump publicly maintained a supportive tone, stating: “Attorney General Pam Bondi is a wonderful person and is doing a good job.”
Attention is now turning to potential long-term replacements. Among those reportedly under consideration is Lee Zeldin, a former New York congressman and current Environmental Protection Agency administrator.
Zeldin has emerged as one of Trump’s most trusted allies and has been praised for advancing the administration’s energy agenda.
At a recent event, the president highlighted his performance, saying: “He’s our secret weapon,” Trump said of Zeldin in February during an event promoting the coal industry, adding, “He’s getting those approvals done in record setting time.”
The reported removal signals a broader shift in Trump’s approach to Cabinet management during his second term. After previously avoiding high-profile dismissals, recent personnel changes; including the departure of former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and her replacement by Markwayne Mullin, suggest a growing willingness to make decisive leadership changes.
For now, the Justice Department has not publicly commented on the situation, leaving questions about the timing and structure of the transition unanswered.
