GRA's Elsie Appau-Klu Honoured At The 16th African Achievers Awards In London

LONDON — Elsie Appau-Klu, Technical Advisor to the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), received the Excellence in Governance and Public Policy Award in London. The ceremony took place at the historic House of Lords in the UK Parliament during the 16th African Achievers Awards & Investment Summit.

​Baroness Verma, Member of the House of Lords and Chancellor of the University of Roehampton, hosted the event alongside Lord Simon Woolley of Woodford. The summit brought together prominent leaders and policymakers from across Africa and around the globe.

During her acceptance speech, Appau-Klu thanked President John Dramani Mahama, Dr. Calistus Mahama, and Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson for the opportunity to serve the nation. She also praised GRA Commissioner-General Mr. Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, describing him as a mentor whose visionary leadership guides her professional path.

​In a personal moment, Appau-Klu dedicated the recognition to her late grandmother, Da Georgina of Sokode Bagble, who raised her from three months old. She shared a message that resonated with the audience: “The same God who kept you from the storm will announce you before kings.”

​She highlighted the hard work of her colleagues at the Ghana Revenue Authority. She praised the National Modified Taxation Implementation Committee, the Sustained Tax Education Programme Team, and the Technical Domestic Revenue Mobilization Committee for strengthening tax education and revenue collection.

The African Achievers Awards highlight individuals and institutions making major contributions to Africa’s growth. Past recipients include Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Jakaya Kikwete, Dr. Josephine Ojiambo, Ibrahim Mahama, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Kofi Annan Foundation, SABC South Africa, and the African Development Bank (AfDB).

​Appau-Klu credited her success to God’s grace, mercy, and steadfast love. Her award underlines Ghana’s expanding role in public administration and financial leadership across the continent.
