Amber Heard ordered to pay Johnny Depp $10.35m for damaging his reputation

At Friday, June 24, 2022, court hearing, the jury rewarded American actor, Johnny Depp with a $10 million (£8.43m) which should be paid to him by his ex-wife, Amber Heard for damaging his reputation.

Judge Penney Azcarate sided with Johnny on 1st June after giving a verdict that saw him won his defamation suit against ex-wife, Amber.

Depp sued Heard over a December 2018 article for The Washington Post,  which suggested that she claims to have been abused by the actor, she described herself as a “public figure representing domestic abuse”.

Fairfax County, Virginia circuit court judge, Penney Azcarate on Friday ruled that Amber Heard must page a total of $10.35 million to her ex-husband, Depp for damages after claiming to be abused by him.

Penney also ruled he should be handed $5m in punitive damages making it $15m instead of $10m, but this was reduced by the judge to $350,000.

Depp was also however ordered to par Heard the sum of $2m (£1.62m) for the reason that she was defamed by one of her ex-husband’s lawyers.

Judge Azacarate also stated that Heard must pay the entire $10.35 million of the judgment plus $480,000 (6% interest) if she were to file an appeal.

The case will be moved to the Court of Appeals of Virginia after 21 days and both parties will have 30 days to file an appeal notice.
