In a bid to bolster North Korea’s military might, Kim Jong Un, the country’s leader, has commanded a significant surge in missile production, aiming to establish an “overwhelming military power” stance in preparation for potential conflict.
As reported by the state media KCNA on Monday, August 14, Kim’s directive comes as both South Korea and the United States gear up for their annual military exercises.
Kim’s visit to critical munitions factories over the weekend marked the latest in a series of inspections, underscoring his intensified focus on the nation’s arms production facilities.

The factories he toured are responsible for manufacturing tactical missiles, missile launch platforms, armored vehicles, and artillery shells.
The upcoming joint military drills between South Korea and the United States, scheduled for August 21-31, are perceived by Pyongyang as a rehearsal for war.
These drills are set to be the most extensive yet, involving tens of thousands of troops from both nations, along with members of the U.N. Command, participating in about 30 field training programs.
Highlighting the importance of the munitions industry’s role, Kim emphasized the necessity to drastically enhance missile production capacity to cater to the requirements of fortified frontline military units.
The leader stated, “The qualitative levels of war preparations depend on the development of the munitions industry.”
The increased production also extends to modernizing production lines for large-caliber multiple rocket launcher rounds, which Kim commended.

His visit showcased his determination to strengthen frontline artillery units through the exponential growth of rocket production.

It is worth noting that the United States has accused North Korea of providing weapons to Russia for its involvement in the conflict in Ukraine, a claim that both nations have denied.
