Akufo Addo appoints Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu as interim Finance Minister

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assigned The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu as the interim finance minister.

The Member of Parliament for Suame is now the temporary head in charge of the Ministry of Finance which will be an additional responsibility to his work as the leader of government and the Majority leader in Ghana’s Parliament which is in accordance with to Order 140 rule 2 and 3 of the Standing Orders of Parliament.

This was communicated by the speaker of Parliament, Mr. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin on Thursday evening, March 11, 2021, on the Parliament floor.

The speaker after his communication received from the Presidency notifying him as the speaker of the house on the new role assigned to Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said; “The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs now has a responsibility over the Ministry of Finance.”

So as it stands now, the interim Finance Minister, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu is expected to present the government’s 2021 Budget Statement in Parliament on Friday, March 12, 2021, due to the absence of a substantive Minister of Finance.
