The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has called upon global leaders to ensure that the advancement of the West does not perpetually come at the expense of Africa and other impoverished parts of the world.

Addressing the sixth edition of the Paris Peace Forum on Friday, November 10, 2023, in France, President Akufo-Addo highlighted the unjust situation and questioned, to resounding applause, whether it is necessary for prosperity in Europe, the West, and parts of Asia to be based on poverty in Africa and other regions.

He urged the audience to contemplate a world where everyone can live together on this planet in relative comfort, challenging the mindset that allows some to live in super comfort while others endure super poverty.

Discussing a variety of issues, including climate action, President Akufo-Addo defended Africa’s constrained position, especially considering the limitation on deploying essential resources for development due to their impact on climate change.

He emphasized the importance of finding financing solutions for the climate transition in Africa, advocating for a just and equitable approach to utilizing available resources.

President Akufo-Addo stressed that addressing these multifaceted problems requires a multiplicity of responses, with access to capital and money being a consistent and critical issue.

He called for a new arrangement where multilateral institutions like the Bank and the Fund play a role in mobilizing the resources needed for global development.

The President’s discourse at the forum reflects the complex challenges facing the world and the urgent need for collaborative, innovative solutions to create a more sustainable and equitable future.
