Accepting Alan’s resignation, the President, Akufo Addo thanked him for his service to the nation and also wished him well in all his endeavors. This was announced in a statement signed by Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communications at the Office of the President on Friday, January 6, 2023.

The President also tasked the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta to take care of the ministry till a substantive minister is appointed.

Thanking the President, Alan took to his Official and wrote; “I would like to thank H.E the President for the opportunity to serve and for graciously accepting my resignation as Cabinet Minister responsible for Trade and Industry, effective 16th January, 2023.

“I sincerely appreciate the support from my family, colleagues, my party the NPP, the international community, and the general public during my tenure as a Minister. I will be addressing the Ghanaian people in the next few days. God bless you!.” he added.

The reasons for his resignation as Minister of Trade and Industry remain unknown, while there are numerous rumors circulating, with some claiming that he is stepping down to focus fully on his political aspirations.

In terms of Alan’s political ambitions, Kyerematen ran for the leadership of the New Patriotic Party in 2007, garnering 32.3% of the vote.

He finished first runner-up behind Nana Akufo-Addo, who received 47.96% of the vote. Kyerematen ran for the party’s leadership again in 2010 and 2014, but came in second to Akufo-Addo, who won the primaries.

Therefore, it’s possible that his motivation is to concentrate on running and contending for the NPP (New Patriotic Party) flagbearership post once more in order to succeed Akufo-Addo, who won’t be running for president again.
