Antony set for medicals as United eyes another forward and right-back

MANCHESTER UNITED is close to finalizing a massive £85 million deal to bring in Antony as their fifth signing of the summer transfer window.

Even if they are close to signing Antony, Manchester United is allegedly willing to add another forward. The attackers Erik ten Hag already has at his disposal, though, make that choice debatable.

Erik ten Hag still desires a right-back to travel with the 22-year-old to Old Trafford before the transfer window closes, so spending the money the Glazers undoubtedly have on him would be better utilized. Achraf Hakimi of PSG is being considered as an option.

It has been known for months that Ten Hag, who formerly led the Brazil international at Ajax where the two enjoyed success as a team, wants to rejoin with the player.

And according to sources, United is prepared to quickly finalize a significant £85 million deal, making them appear to be close to signing their man.

The acquisition of the Samba star hasn’t satisfied the Red Devils, though.

The Telegraph claims that as time passes, United is willing to sign another attacker. Memphis Depay of Barcelona and Cody Gakpo of PSV have been linked.

However, if the Red Devils do spend money on another forward, particularly if no one steps forward to save Cristiano Ronaldo, it will leave them seriously overextended in that department.

Gakpo responded to a question from ESPN on Sunday regarding Antony possibly joining United as reported by ed.nl: “That is nice for him, but it has no influence on me.”

The PSV forward was then questioned about his own future, particularly in light of the connections to United, to which he added:

I can’t say anything about it at the moment. As I said before, the whole picture has to be right. It is a puzzle and in the coming days I will see which puzzle fits best.”

“For me it is certainly not a punishment to stay at PSV. I’ll hear about it all in the coming days.”

Since Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Brandon Williams, who were once highly regarded by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, have been deemed surplus to needs, Erik ten Hag also wants a right-back.

Achraf Hakimi and Kylian Mbappe

Dean Jones, a journalist, reports that United have made inquiries regarding Hakimi, whose long-term future at Paris Saint-Germain is uncertain.

Hakimi is unlikely,” he told GiveMeSport. “

If he’s going to be available, they want to be in that conversation.

Even while a deal is doubtful, it can’t be completely ruled out. Particularly in light of United’s chaotic transfer window thus far.

Ten Hag stated that United will continue to work up until the very end of deadline day to complete deals after the Red Devils’ 1-0 triumph over Southampton on Saturday.

We stick to the plan,” the Dutchman declared. “If a good player is available we will strike. We will be alert until the last second of the window.”
