Apprise Music & Media, Ghana’s leading music tech and rights management company, recently took its mission of shaping African music stories to Nigeria. The trip, led by Media and Communications Lead Philip NeeWhang, marked another big step in Apprise’s Pan-African journey to empower creators and amplify authentic voices across the continent.
From artist to strategist
Philip NeeWhang’s journey into the media spotlight has been anything but ordinary. Before joining Apprise in 2023, he had already established himself as a content creator, scriptwriter, filmmaker, performing artist, and contributor to platforms such as TrenderHQ and GhanaWeb. His passion has always been clear: to reframe how African culture is seen and told through powerful storytelling.
At Apprise Music, Philip has played a major role in leading campaigns like the launch of AI-powered distribution partner RoEx. He has also been a key figure in conversations around music rights and transparency, including engagements with GHAMRO on improving metadata practices for Ghanaian creators.
Lagos as the stage
The Nigeria trip was not just about meetings. Philip turned Lagos into a live media lab, transforming high-level discussions with Sony Music Publishing and the Creative Industries Initiative for Africa (CIIFA) into opportunities for storytelling. He captured creative spaces, roundtable conversations, and panel sessions to create content that inspires and educates.
As Philip explained, “Media is not just PR, it is policy, culture, and legacy. How we tell our story determines who listens, and who funds.”
This perspective set the tone for the trip, positioning Apprise as more than just a distribution platform, but as a cultural force driving meaningful change across Africa’s music ecosystem.

Building collaborations and impact
Philip’s influence at Apprise continues to be felt through artist-focused initiatives, from promoting talents such as Pozo Hayes to supporting producers and engineers through digital distribution platforms. His creative strategy blends branded content, behind-the-scenes features, educational skits, and live interviews, all designed to put the spotlight on artist rights, revenue transparency, and sustainable growth.

A bigger vision for African music
Apprise Music’s expansion into Nigeria shows the company’s commitment to building more than just distribution channels. With leaders like Philip NeeWhang at the forefront, Apprise is laying the foundation for media infrastructure, policy influence, and narrative ownership.
The Lagos campaign highlighted how modern African music cannot thrive on talent alone. It needs a blend of technology, advocacy, and storytelling. Philip NeeWhang’s ability to move seamlessly between the roles of artist, filmmaker, and strategist reflects the kind of leadership that can reshape how African music is experienced both locally and globally.
