Aston Villa has officially announced the loan signing of Marco Asensio from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for the remainder of the 2024/25 season, bolstering their squad with a high-profile addition.
The 29-year-old Spaniard, who has achieved considerable success with both club and country, brings a wealth of experience to Villa Park.
Asensio’s arrival marks the fourth major signing for Villa during the January transfer window, following Donyell Malen, Andres Garcia, and Marcus Rashford.
The attacking midfielder is a three-time UEFA Champions League winner with Real Madrid, where he earned his reputation as a key player.
His trophy haul includes three La Liga titles, three UEFA Super Cups, and four FIFA Club World Cups.
After a distinguished spell at Madrid, Asensio moved to PSG in the summer of 2023. He featured 47 times for the Parisians, helping them secure four major titles, including the 2023 Ligue 1 trophy.
His decision to join Aston Villa stems, in part, from his long-standing admiration for Villa’s head coach, Unai Emery.

“I’ve known Unai for a while, and he’s had a great career. He’s a top coach, and he’s been key in me coming here,” Asensio said in his first interview with the club.
“His footballing philosophy suits me perfectly, and he’s a really important reason why I’m here. I’m excited to compete against the best teams in the world every week.”
Asensio has also been a regular feature for Spain, earning 38 caps and representing his country at two FIFA World Cups.
He was part of Spain’s victorious 2023 UEFA Nations League squad and will undoubtedly be looking to continue his winning ways with Villa.
