A Georgia man has been charged with murder after police discovered the body of a woman who had been shot multiple times and left naked inside an abandoned storage unit behind a strip mall in southwest Atlanta.
Authorities identified the victim as 29-year-old Alexis Jane Harlow, whose body was found on August 13 inside a unit located behind a grocery store on Campbellton Road Southwest. Police said she had likely been dead for at least 24 hours before being discovered.
The investigation led detectives to 20-year-old Reginald Elliot, who now faces charges including murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and tampering with evidence. He is currently being held in Fulton County Jail without bond.
Police connected Elliot to the killing through surveillance video and ballistic evidence, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. At the time of the murder charges, Elliot was already in custody on separate counts involving firearms and drugs, stemming from an arrest on August 27 for carrying weapons on school property.
The discovery of Harlow’s body was first reported by a worker cleaning near the plaza. Another employee recalled the moment the body was found, telling WXIA: “I poke my head around the truck and see him crouched down on the ground, knees to his head, just screaming. He said, ‘There’s a dead body back there, there’s a dead body back there.’”
Neighbors and employees told local outlets that Harlow had been staying in the storage unit for several months and was a familiar figure in the business plaza.
The Atlanta Police Department emphasized that the case “remains ongoing at this time.”
