In a tragic incident that has shocked the journalism community, award-winning British photojournalist Paul Lowe, 60, was allegedly murdered by his 19-year-old son, Emir Lowe, during a hiking trip in California’s San Gabriel Mountains.
Authorities report that Paul was found dead on October 12, having suffered a fatal stab wound to the neck.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that Emir Lowe has been charged with one count of murder and is scheduled to appear in court on October 16 at the West Covina Courthouse.
The horrific attack occurred around 3:28 PM on Mount Baldy Road, near Stoddard Canyon Falls.
Emergency responders, called to the scene, discovered Paul suffering from severe trauma to his upper torso.
Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the site by San Bernardino Fire Department personnel.
Following the incident, witnesses reported seeing a white male driving away from the scene. This individual was later involved in a solo car accident a few miles away and was detained for questioning.
