Over the past week, there has been a lot of discussion regarding Lionel Messi’s potential return to Barcelona.

The footballer, who was subjected to whistles from a group of PSG’s ultras fans ahead of their 1-0 loss to Lyon at the Parc des Princes in Paris, is said to be keen on a move back to Spain.

In a significant development, journalist Veronica Brunati has reported that Barcelona will initiate formal negotiations with Messi this week and offer him a contract to secure his comeback to the club.

The 35-year-old footballer’s contract with PSG is nearing its end, and it appears that this season will be his last in France as discussions regarding a renewal have hit a roadblock.

According to a report by L’Equipe last night, PSG has proposed a contract to Messi that necessitates a significant reduction in his salary, which he is unwilling to accept. Additionally, the player is uncertain about the club’s project.

Although talks regarding a renewal have taken place, both parties are believed to be happier parting ways, and all signs indicate an exit for the Argentine captain.

Veronica Brunati, who has close ties to Messi’s camp, has also stated that this is likely to be the icon’s final season in PSG, and Barcelona will intensify their efforts to re-sign their former captain.

The report suggests that Barça will initiate negotiations with the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner this week and present a formal contract offer.

It is believed that the Catalans plan to propose a one-year contract with an option for another twelve months.

Barcelona is reportedly optimistic about their prospects of bringing Messi back and is collaborating with sponsors to help finance a deal that will ensure the return of the club legend for one last hurrah.

Although the stars appear to be aligning for Messi to return to his former club, La Liga’s Financial Fair Play regulations remain a significant obstacle to overcome.
