Bayern Munich has reportedly fined Sadio Mane heavily and is looking to sell him this summer after he punched team-mate Leroy Sane in a furious confrontation last week.

The incident happened in the dressing room after the German side’s 3-0 defeat at Manchester City on Tuesday, with other members of the squad having to step in to calm things down.

Following the altercation, Mane was dropped from the squad for Bayern’s Bundesliga match with Hoffenheim on Saturday and was docked some of his £17m-a-year wages.

The magnitude of his punishment has now been disclosed, with the club handing out the highest fine in its history, which is said to be far beyond €300,000 (£260,000).

Bayern expert Florian Plettenberg told Sky Germany, “it is an amount that goes far beyond €300,000 (£260,000), so it’s a very, very sensitive fine for Mane.”

The Senegalese forward missed Bayern’s 1-1 draw at home to Hoffenheim, and while Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that he will be back in contention for Bayern’s return match with City, his future at the club seems to be in doubt.

According to Plettenberg, Bayern is willing to sell Mane as Tuchel has no plans with him, and he doesn’t fit his system. “The player is seen very critically internally,” said Plettenberg.

Mane’s first year in Germany has been disappointing, and he has failed to cement his position in the team, playing in different positions such as upfront and on the left wing.

Mane was ruled out of the World Cup last year after suffering a right fibula injury, and since his comeback, he has struggled to find the net for Bayern and has been consistently benched for big games, including the recent loss at City.

Bayern has just six more league games remaining and is on the brink of exiting the Champions League at the quarter-final stage for the second successive season, leaving Mane with limited time to prove himself.
