Ben Affleck has finally opened up about his highly publicized divorce from Jennifer Lopez, calling the experience “embarrassing.”
In a candid interview with GQ for their April 2025 issue, the actor discussed the challenges and vulnerabilities he faced during the breakdown of his marriage to the superstar singer-actress.
The couple, who were once famously engaged in the early 2000s, rekindled their romance nearly 20 years later before tying the knot in 2021.
However, after just two years of marriage, they announced their separation earlier this year. Despite the media circus surrounding their relationship, Affleck insists that their breakup wasn’t driven by any “scandal, soap opera drama, or intrigue.”
He explained, “When you talk to somebody, ‘Hey, what happened?’ Well, there is no, ‘This is what happened.‘ It’s just a story about people trying to figure out their lives and relationships in ways that we all sort of normally do.”

Affleck, 52, confessed that as he gets older, he finds himself less interested in airing the private details of his relationships.
“It’s embarrassing, it feels vulnerable,” he said, adding that it often feels like a couple’s therapy session. He also shared how he finds it hard to watch others discuss their private lives in such an open manner.
The actor also touched on his involvement in the upcoming 2024 documentary The Greatest Love Story Never Told, which focuses on their marriage.
Affleck said he agreed to take part because he wanted to present an honest and insightful reflection of their relationship.
He also noted that the documentary is not responsible for their breakup, stressing that viewers won’t find any shocking revelations about their split in the film.
Despite the split, Affleck holds nothing but respect for Lopez, 55. He admires her ability to navigate the complexities of celebrity life, acknowledging that her public persona is much more open than his own reserved nature.
