The Hamilton family is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Andrew Hamilton, the 3-year-old nephew of professional surfer Bethany Hamilton.
Andrew passed away on October 17, 2024, a week after being found unconscious in a bathtub, sparking an outpouring of grief and support from family and friends.
Andrew was discovered in a partially filled bathtub at his home in Hawaii on October 11.
Despite immediate life-saving efforts and being rushed to Wilcox Hospital, he later suffered severe complications, including kidney damage and swelling in the brain, leading to his hospitalization in Oahu.

His father, Timothy Hamilton, shared the devastating news on Instagram, stating, “Andrew Samuel Hamilton… entered his heavenly rest… succumbing to injuries sustained in a drowning accident.”
In a heartfelt tribute, Timothy expressed how deeply Andrew would be missed by his family, including his mother Kyah and his five siblings.
He emphasized the importance of faith during this painful time, noting that their church community provided vital support and prayers.
Bethany Hamilton, who has been a prominent figure in the surfing world and a motivational speaker, also shared her sorrow on social media.
“The Lord has received my sweet nephew Andrew into his beautiful care,” she wrote, expressing her trust that Andrew is now joyful with Jesus.

The tragic incident occurred while Andrew was taking a bath after experiencing a fever. His family described him as a vibrant child who loved to swim, making the incident all the more shocking.
A fundraising page created for the family noted that Andrew was an exceptional swimmer, even in the ocean, which made the circumstances surrounding his accident perplexing.
Bethany’s brother Noah also shared a poignant memory of his last moments with Andrew, recalling their time surfing just days before the tragedy.
“We will never know how he got into trouble in a bath with 6 inches of water,” he lamented, but took comfort in knowing that Andrew is now in a better place.
The family is navigating this unimaginable loss with the support of their faith and community, cherishing the memories of their beloved Andrew.
