A 30-year-old New York man has been charged with the murder of his father at a luxury resort in Ireland. The tragic incident occurred at Ballyfin Demesne, a five-star hotel in County Laois, on Tuesday, November 12.
Henry McGowan, from Brooklyn, is accused of killing his father, 60-year-old John McGowan, after an alleged assault in the hotel’s leisure center.
Irish police, known as Garda, responded to the scene around 8 p.m. and found John McGowan with serious injuries. He was pronounced dead shortly after.
Following the discovery, Garda officers arrested Henry McGowan at a nearby station in the Eastern Region.
The circumstances surrounding the death are still under investigation, and authorities have not yet disclosed the details of the assault.

They are being assisted by the Garda Technical Bureau and the Office of the State Pathologist.
McGowan appeared before Portlaoise District Court on Thursday, November 15, where his lawyer, Barry Fitzgerald, stated that the accused has significant mental health issues.
Fitzgerald requested that McGowan be given a psychiatric evaluation while in custody at Cloverhill Prison, a request that was granted by Judge Andrew Cody.

Authorities have not provided further information about the relationship between the father and son or whether there was any history of prior issues.
The case remains ongoing, with further investigations to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
