By Riddy10 2 Min Read

Carlos Alcaraz, the top-ranked male tennis player in the world, said on Friday that he would miss this month’s Australian Open because of a leg injury.

Alcaraz claimed in a tweet that he “by a chance, unusual movement in training” hurt a muscle in his right leg.

In light of this, he iterated “It’s tough, but I have to be optimistic, recover and look forward. See you in 2024 @AustralianOpen.”

Alcaraz’s first grand slam since winning the 2022 US Open in September would have been the Australian Open.

Alcaraz became the youngest No. 1 in men’s tennis last year after winning his first grand slam in New York and winning five ATP titles in the process.

Since Rafael Nadal, he is the youngest guy to reach the top 10 and win an ATP 1000 title.

Interestingly enough, Alcaraz surpassed Lleyton Hewitt’s record from 2001 by becoming the youngest year-end No. 1 in men’s tennis at the age of 19 years and 214 days.

Sadly enough, Alcaraz has missed sporting events in the past due to injuries. Due to an abdominal injury incurred at the Paris Masters earlier that month, he missed the 2022 ATP Finals in Turin, Italy.
