Carney Chukwuemeka’s permanent transfer from Chelsea to Aston Villa has been agreed upon for a sum somewhere around £20 million.

Yesterday was a hectic day for Blues news as Thomas Tuchel made a significant advancement in his pursuit of Brighton fullback Marc Cucurella. Personal terms have been reached between the two parties, and the final negotiations are still ongoing.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed Chelsea’s new signing on his twitter page on Wednesday morning saying:

Contract will be until June 2028. 100% confirmed.

After bringing in Kalidou Koulibaly and Raheem Sterling this summer, as well as young players Eddie Beach from Southampton and Omari Hutchinson from Arsenal, the Blues are still looking to improve their roster.

Carney Chukwuemeka appears close to completing a transfer to Premier League rivals Chelsea, and Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has already expressed his feelings in that regard.

After failing to reach an agreement on a new contract at Villa Park, the 18-year-old midfielder will now depart for London to discuss personal terms and undergo a physical.

His current contract was due to expire the following year, so Villa have decided to make a move to acquire the player. A fee of £20 million has since been mentioned in the wake of the news.

It represents a wise move on the part of Villa’s management, who, had they not acted fast, may have lost the player in the coming months for just a meager £300,000 compensation amount.

Villa has frequently received accolades for their spending, but their ability to take advantage of Chukwuemeka’s decision and earn a sizable fee in the process deserves credit as some of their best work this summer.

Even though he was not included in the team’s summer tour to Australia, Steven Gerrard had earlier stated that he was still in his plans for the coming campaign, saying:

The best thing for him would be to continue his training regime back at Bodymoor (Heath training centre).”

Back in December, he had already made the following comments about the future of the England U19 international:

“We believe this is the right place for him. If anyone else thinks it’s not, then I would like to sit in front of them and discuss it. We don’t see a problem. He’s got 18 months left on his deal, we just need to let the kid play football.”

Borussia Dortmund had inquired about signing him, and Barcelona had expressed interest as well.

Chukwuemeka was eager to speak with Dortmund about the possibility after seeing the opportunities given to other young England exports like Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham.
