Chelsea vs Man United team news and possible lineup

By Xorkpe Sosu 5 Min Read

Chelsea play host to Manchester United in the Premier League with the hopes of returning to winning ways as both side renew their Premier League rivalry.

Erik ten Hag’s team who defeated Tottenham Hotspur in a 2-0 triumph will face Graham Potter’s team who were restricted to a 0-0 draw by Brentford at Stamford Bridge.

Kepa Arrizabalaga, the most expensive goalkeeper in the world was called upon again at the Gtech Community Stadium just a few days after he had to save Chelsea’s bacon in their victory against Aston Villa, as Chelsea’s five-game winning streak came to an abrupt stop.

The West London derby ended without a single goal being scored, but Potter’s team is still in the lead for Champions League football thanks to a particularly tenacious defensive run. Kepa’s countryman and opposite number David Raya was also in excellent form.

Chelsea only needed one point to maintain their position in the fourth and final Champions League slot, three points behind Tottenham Hotspur with a game remaining against their rivals in the capital, although forthcoming opponents Man United did earn all three points in their midweek match.

In this match, a loss for Chelsea would eliminate them from contention for a Champions League spot but Potter’s team welcomes Man United to Stamford Bridge having kept a clean sheet in each of their last five Premier League contests and having only conceded two goals overall since the 47-year-old took over.

The hosts have also won each of their past three Premier League contests at their West London stadium, and they have yet to suffer a loss at Stamford Bridge this season.

However, Man United has shown a fondness for performances against Big Six teams from the city under Ten Hag.

Man United have now won four of their past five games in all competitions, and they have impressively won nine of their last 12 games following that 4-0 loss to Brentford.

The visitors have three straight shutouts in their last three games, while Chelsea’s streak of clean sheets is more impressive.

However, the last four Premier League meetings between Chelsea and Man United have all finished in draws, and the Blues are hoping to snap a dismal streak of just one victory in their last 11 meetings with the Red Devils.

CHELSEA team news

The good news for Blues is that Thiago Silva and Hakim Ziyech who were all on the bench against Brentford are all fit ahead of Man United’s clash but Wesley Fofana (knee), Reece James (knee) and N’Golo Kante (thigh) will all be absent again.

Conor Gallagher’s removal from the field on Wednesday after 15 minutes sparked worries about yet another England injury, but Potter has now clarified that his exit was caused by illness. Mateo Kovacic can anticipate a recall after a strong replacement performance, despite the fact that he has since been training normally.

MANCHESTER UNITED Team News

The good news for the red Devils is that Christian Eriksen returned from illness on Wednesday whiles Cristiano Ronaldo was left off the roster after the Portuguese forward walked down the tunnel before the full-time whistle in United’s win against Tottenham.

However, the Dutchman still has a long list of injured players to deal with, including Axel Tuanzebe (unspecified), Brandon Williams (unspecified), Aaron Wan-Bissaka (muscle), Harry Maguire (hamstring), Donny van de Beek (muscle) and Anthony Martial (back).

Anthony Martial, Wan-Bissaka and Maguire are the players who are the closest to returning but won’t be ready just yet.
