Chelsea’s midfielder Jorginho, has yet to reach an agreement on a new deal with the team.

The 30-year-old Italian has been given the initial conditions of an extended contract that will maintain his pay at his current rate of £120,000 per week.

Since transferring from Napoli to Chelsea in 2018, vice captain Jorginho has had great success.

Jorginho demands for pay rise

Jorginho’s contract negotiations with Chelsea are apparently at a standstill because the Italian midfielder wants to be paid more to match Cesar Azpilicueta, who recently signed a new £150,000-per-week contract.

Jorginho is one of three key Chelsea players whose contracts are set to expire next summer along with experienced center-back Thiago Silva and fellow midfielder N’Golo Kante.

If Chelsea is unable to reach a deal, the core will be free to speak with foreign clubs as early as January about a potential free move next summer.

N'Golo Kante demands for pay rise

Similar to Jorginho, N’Golo Kante’s discussions have stalled as well. It is believed that both players want a longer contract than the two years the Blues have offered to sign.

Jorginho wants to be regarded as a crucial player of the team under Graham Potter according to the source.

Todd Boehly, the owner of Chelsea will be in charge of the negotiations with Jorginho. He wants to keep his team stable so that his new manager can contend for championships.

The future of Jorginho has already been addressed by his representative, who acknowledged that his client is “prioritizing” a new contract with Chelsea but also made a suggestion that he has spoken to Barcelona about a potential transfer.

“I work in football, I have been to Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia, but also in other parts such as Lyon,” Santos said according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

“I’m Jorginho’s agent, I may have talked about him but also about others,” when asked if he spoke to Barcelona about Jorginho.

“We prioritise Chelsea and we are moving towards it. Another priority for Jorginho is to do well with the national team.”
