Chelsea’s new owner Todd Boehly’s first mission alongside sorting out the future of a want-away striker Romelu Lukaku is to sort out a defence which is expected to undergo major surgery this summer to rebuild the former European Champions.

Antonio Rudiger’s free transfer departure to Real Madrid is likely to be followed by Andreas Christensen and Marcos Alonso being touted to move to La Liga Barcelona who are currently undergoing financial difficulties.

The need to rebuild is very clear after losing a figure like Rudiger and Christensen will prove tricky to replace instantly, they both did play a major part in the 2020/21 Champions League victory.

Thomas Tuchel knows there needs to be an investment in the case of defence of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, Chelsea cannot sit on their hands and wait.

Names like Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig have already been mentioned as a replacement to fill Rudigers spot, the experienced Gleison Bremer of Torino has reportedly been watched by Chelsea this season and may also been an option.

However, some of the best additions to the first-team squad have come via the academy which were priceless solutions, written off as either “not being ready” or “not being good enough” but have proved the opposite, outshining senior players the club spend a hefty fee for.

According to reports, Jules Kounde who was denied his dream move last summer is likely to be the first through the door in this defensive re-shuffle despite official negotiations between Sevilla and Chelsea not opening as of yet.

Townflex sports understands that Jules Kounde and Ousmane Dembele are clear examples of players Chelsea are looking for in the market, with Croatian internatioinal Josko Gvardiol and French international Christopher Nkunku all fit into that bracket.
