When Cristiano Ronaldo attempted a hat-trick of failed skill shots against Al-Hilal, football fans were left in stitches.
The Portuguese superstar had a memorable evening on Wednesday as the Riyadh Season Cup final at the Kingdom Arena saw his Al-Nassr team lose 2-0.
Salem Aldawsari and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic both scored goals to give the Saudi Pro League leaders an easy victory. And among the moments that spectators saw throughout a thrilling evening was Ronaldo’s ability—or lack thereof—in the first few minutes of the match.
After receiving the ball on the left flank, the 39-year-old tried to drive past Ruben Neves, his Portugal teammate, and into the goal. But it seems that Ronaldo’s legendary stepover skills escaped him, as he ultimately lost possession and let the former Wolves player clear.
Following what they had just witnessed, fans quickly commented, with many finding the botched attempt to be somewhat humorous.
A fan commented, “This is so funny bro,” on the previous Twitter platform X. Ronaldo is attempting to refute Hazard.
One person said, “What a skill that was.” “Useless stepovers that lead to nothing lmao!” exclaimed a third.
“Bro thought he was him,” a fourth person stated. Another fan, however, just sent back a sequence of sobbing laughing emojis in response to the video.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t the only time the former Manchester United striker’s lightning-fast feet let him down.
Ronaldo attempted a reckless back-heeled pass with his team trailing 1-0, which was intercepted and almost resulted in another Al-Hilal goal.
Later in the game, he attempted to deceive former Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly by flip-flopping. Still, the attempt was dreadfully inadequate.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who was at the focus of numerous incidents, had an overall miserable night.
The stadium’s ‘Messi, Messi, Messi’ screaming was too loud for the 39-year-old to ignore. Social media footage seems to show the former Real Madrid striker answering in a slightly irritated manner.
Another time during the match, referee Tori Penso gave the Al-Nassr captain a yellow card for slamming the ball into the stands, which made him furious.
In addition, a fan threw an Al-Hilal shirt at the forward as he was walking down the tunnel at the Kingdom Arena in video that surfaced on X, now known as Twitter.
He took up the shirt as he got closer to the tunnel, then probably became frustrated and threw it back towards the audience after rubbing it on his crotch.
