Akufo-Addo appoints Cynthia Lamptey as interim Special Prosecutor

President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankua Akufo-Addo has appointed Ms. Cynthia Lamptey as the interim Special Prosecutor.

Ms. Jane Cynthia Naa Torshie Lamptey will be serving as the acting Special Prosecutor for the time being until the president appoints another to take on the role.

Cynthia Lamptey served under the former Special Prosecutor, Mr. Martin Amidu as his Deputy Special Prosecutor until his resignation on Monday, Monday, November 16, 2020.

In his resignation later to the President, Akufo-Addo, Martin Amidu gave the reason why he was bent on leaving the office of the Special Prosecutor.

Martin Amidu in the letter also pointed out that his Deputy, Cynthia, who is now appointed as the interim Special Prosecutor has never been paid since she resumed office in 2018, and demanded that the presidency do well to address the situation.

“The Deputy Special Prosecutor has also not been paid any emoluments since her appointment, and there is the need to redress that situation for her now that I am out of the way,” his statement reads.
