Dale Meeks dead: Emmerdale & Byker Grove star dies aged 47

English television and theatre actor, Dale Meeks who is best known for his role as Simon Meredith in the British TV drama Emmerdale have been confirmed dead.

The passing of South Tyneside actor Dale Meeks at the age of 47 has prompted an outpouring of tributes from fans and fellow performers alike.

News of Meeks’ death was first announced on Facebook by a family member on Sunday, who expressed their profound sadness and described the actor as a beloved friend, brother-in-law, and “mucca” or mate. In the days that followed, Meeks’ relative also expressed gratitude for the support shown by his many friends during this difficult time.

The Statement read: “So unbelievably sad. Brother in Law, mucca, side kick and just the BEST friend a lad could have wished for. RIP Dale Meeks. So much less to laugh about now you’re not there to share it with.”

It continued: “Thanks everyone for all the beautiful messages and memories you have been sharing. The support of Dale’s friends has been so incredibly strong over these chaotic, heartbreaking final hours, I can only stand in awe.”

Meeks had been a fixture on both stage and screen for over thirty years, beginning with his breakout role alongside Ant and Dec in Byker Grove during the 1990s. He later became a familiar face to audiences of the soap Emmerdale, where he played Simon Meredith.

He also demonstrated his musical talents on the show Celebrity Stars in their Eyes as part of a Blues Brothers tribute act, and was a member of the blues band Shake Your Tail Feather.

In recent times, Meeks had continued to showcase his versatility as an actor, earning praise for his work in the true crime drama The Hunt for Raoul Moat. His performances in stage productions of Chicago and Love Never Dies were also noteworthy.

Following the news of his passing, fans and colleagues flocked to social media to pay their respects. South Tyneside performer Stephen Sullivan expressed his deep sorrow at Meeks’ passing, describing him as an inspiration and a beloved talent.
