The Danish Navy Released three African Pirates deeming them not worthy to be prosecuted. Back in November, a presumed Nigerian Pirate was caught in the gulf of Guinea by the Danish Navy and was brought to Denmark for prosecution.

Having being charged for attempted murder of army personnel, the Nigerian Pirate escaped the waterloo after the judge dismissed the case due to the location which the crime was committed.

The incident which took place in the gulf of Guinea also saw 3 other Nigerians arrested by a Danish frigate. Nevertheless, they were set free after there was no accommodation for them to take advantage of.

The statement made by Danish Justice Minister Nick Haekkerup reads: “They have no relation to Denmark, and the crime they have been charged with was committed far from Denmark. They simply do not belong here, and that’s why I think it’s the right thing to do.”

Afterwards, the judge who was in charge of the case send forth the three pirates via a ship filled with clothes, food, water, and fuel. These items were put in place to ensure that the pirates have enough resources to reach the shores.

Moreover, the Danish frigate killed four pirates during an attack in Africa. The assault started when pirates launched an attack on a commercial container and during the frigate who was assigned off the shore of West Africa got involved; killing four and capturing four pirates.

The captured pirates were taken to Denmark and charges were pressed against them. At the end of the trial, the Danish court withdraw the charges but couldn’t find a nation to release the four pirates to.

Nonetheless, three were successfully dispatched while one was in critical condition due to the injury sustained. He was admitted to the general hospital of Ghana after sustaining severe injuries which led to the amputation of one of his legs.

When brought to court, this injured pirate could not be dispatched as the others due to his worrying medical condition and ongoing law suit. He pleaded not guilty to charges of “attempted manslaughter of Danish soldiers.”

While the pirate’s lawyer is demanding for release of his client just as was applicable to the others, the case is still up and running.

Additionally, the gulf of Guinea have been under attack by pirates for the past few decades. Incidences became low because of the heightened security measures to keep the spot safe.
