Experts are alerting people about an increase in shark activity in the well-known Memorial Day weekend location on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, as the unofficial start of summer approaches.

On Thursday, scientists from the New England Aquarium released a warning to those who plan to visit Cape Cod’s immaculate seas.

Although white shark sightings this season have not been confirmed, John Chisholm, an adjunct scientist at the Aquarium’s Anderson Cabot Centre for Ocean Life, stated that researchers are positive of the species’ existence.

Chisholm remarked, “We know they’re here, even though we haven’t seen a white shark yet this season.” “Reviewing shark safety protocols and practising shark shrewdness is a good idea as Memorial Day Weekend draws near and beach weather is predicted.

The timely warning for anyone ready to brave the freezing seas in Massachusetts comes from the experts who stated that many marine creatures off the coast of Massachusetts have lately been found suffering from shark bites.

In Plymouth, Chisholm just took pictures of a seal that had recently sustained bite marks. A fishing charter company also reported to the aquarium that on May 21, a minke whale had been bitten by a white shark off the coast of Chatham, Massachusetts.

The bites serve as an early alert that sharks are increasingly frequenting the white sand beaches of Cape Cod.

Chisholm and the aquarium emphasised the significance of “being aware of sharks’ presence in shallow waters, avoiding areas where seals are present or schools of fish are visible, and staying close to shore where emergency responders can reach you if needed” as the temperature rises and more people head to the beaches.
