Sean “Diddy” Combs has voluntarily dropped his appeal for bail and will remain in jail until his criminal trial begins in May 2024.
The hip-hop mogul’s legal team filed a motion to dismiss the appeal, signalling that he no longer seeks to challenge the district court’s decision to deny his request for release.
This means Combs will continue to be held at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn as he faces serious criminal charges.
His trial, which is set to begin on May 5, 2024, will address allegations that he ran a criminal enterprise with the goal of satisfying his need for “sexual gratification.”
The filing comes after a Manhattan federal judge rejected Combs’ request to be released on bail.
In denying the motion, the judge cited “compelling evidence of Combs’s propensity for violence” and his potential to tamper with witnesses.

The court also pointed to claims that Combs had engaged in inappropriate communication with a witness who was scheduled to testify before the grand jury, which could have violated prison rules.
Combs’ attorneys had argued that he could be released on a $50 million bond and placed under house arrest with stringent restrictions.
However, prosecutors contended that, if released, the hip-hop mogul would continue attempts to undermine the integrity of the case.

The charges against Combs include accusations that he hosted “freak off” parties, where victims were allegedly drugged and coerced into sex.
