A British doctor has pleaded guilty to a shocking attempt to kill his mother’s partner using a fake Covid-19 vaccine.
Thomas Kwan, 53, from Sunderland, devised an elaborate scheme that involved forging medical documents, disguising himself as a nurse, and injecting his victim with poison.
The incident unfolded in Newcastle, where Kwan posed as a healthcare professional to gain access to his mother’s partner, Patrick O’Hara.
After taking his mother’s blood pressure, Kwan injected O’Hara with a toxic substance, which resulted in the victim suffering from necrotising fasciitis, a potentially fatal flesh-eating bacterial infection. Fortunately, O’Hara survived the ordeal.

Kwan, who was charged with attempted murder, entered his guilty plea shortly after his trial commenced at Newcastle Crown Court.
He had already admitted to a separate charge of administering a noxious substance.
Prosecutor Peter Makepeace described the bizarre case, emphasising that Kwan’s motivations stemmed from concerns over his mother’s will, which stipulated that O’Hara would inherit her house if he was still alive when she passed.
“Mr. Kwan used his encyclopaedic knowledge of, and research into, poisons to carry out his plan,” Makepeace stated.
The prosecutor added that Kwan meticulously planned the attack, checking into a hotel under a false name, using false license plates, and donning a wig to conceal his identity.
The details of this case have drawn significant public attention, highlighting the extreme lengths to which Kwan went in his attempt to carry out the heinous act.
