Debtors have been cautioned by the management of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to pay off all debts within four months.
The ECG Tema Regional Public Relations Officer, Sakyiwaa Mensah, revealed to Johnnie Hughes during a panel discussion on TV3 NewDay on Friday, August 12, that debtors must pay 70% of the total debt within the first four months and the remaining 30% within three months.
After an alleged event in which inhabitants of Manya and Yilo Krobo in Ghana’s Eastern Region allegedly refused to pay their debt, the regional public service officer made this statement.
Samuel Dubik Mahama, the managing director of the ECG, claims that 168 million Ghanaian shillings are the total amount of debt owed by the people of Manya and Yilo.

In addition to that, he called it a sad scenario and advised the community people to calm down and find solutions to pay this debt.
Mr. Samuel Dubik stated as follows:
“ECG buys the power from independent power producers and sells the power. The total outstanding debt in Yilo Krobo and Manya Krobo is totaling ¢168million, hence the disconnection of electricity in these two towns.
It is very sad what is going on and they are a community, all they have to do is to come together and let us find a lasting solution today.”
Mr. Samuel Dubik made these revelations during an interview with Ghana Tonight on Wednesday, August 10.
