Egg heist: Pennsylvania authorities are searching for answers after a daring heist left a distribution trailer short of 100,000 eggs, the bizarre theft, which occurred in Antrim Township, remains unsolved, with police urging the public to come forward with any leads.

The theft took place on Saturday at approximately 8:40 p.m. from a trailer belonging to Pete & Gerry’s Organics. According to Trooper First Class Megan Frazer of the Pennsylvania State Police, investigators have yet to identify a suspect.

“We’re relying on leads from the community. We’re hoping that someone knows something and will provide us with useful tips,” Frazer stated, authorities are reviewing surveillance footage and speaking with possible witnesses to crack the case.

The theft comes at a time when egg prices remain high due to ongoing bird flu outbreaks, millions of chickens have been culled, causing U.S. egg prices to more than double since mid-2023.

In December, the average price for a dozen eggs reached $4.15, not far from the record high of $4.82 set two years ago, the Agriculture Department warns that prices could surge another 20% in 2024, making eggs a valuable commodity.

“This is definitely a unique case,” Frazer admitted, noting that in her 12-year career, she has never encountered such a large-scale egg theft.

The stolen eggs, valued at approximately $40,000, classify this crime as a felony. Pete & Gerry’s Organics has confirmed their cooperation with law enforcement and is committed to helping resolve the case.

“We take this matter seriously and are committed to resolving it as quickly as possible,” the company said in a statement.

With no suspects or leads, police are urging anyone with information to come forward, investigators are racing against time, hoping to recover the stolen eggs before they spoil.
